Folger Shakespeare Library staff, "Titus Andronicus, second edition," Shakespeare Documented, https://doi.org/10.37078/286.

Edinburgh University Library, De.5.111. See Shakespeare Documentedhttps://doi.org/10.37078/286.

This is the second edition of Titus Andronicus, printed in 1600 by James Roberts for Edward White. John Danter registered the play and printed the first edition in 1594, for White and Thomas Millington.

The text of the second edition corrects mistakes found in the first edition while introducing new ones. Scholars believe that an annotated version of the third edition is what was used to set the play for the First Folio, although the Folio version introduces an entirely new scene into Act 3. Scholars continue to debate whether or not the playwright George Peele wrote some of the early scenes.

Th copy shown above is one of only two recorded in the English Short Title Catalogue. It is held by the Centre for Research Collections at Edinburgh University, and was donated to the university by the family of Sir Roger Hog of Harcarse in 1700.
