Margaret, John and Mary Shakespeare’s second child, was buried on April 30, 1563, according to the Holy Trinity Church parish register. Next to the entry, an “X” added by a later hand highlights its significance. She was about five months old. There is no indication of her cause of death, although the mortality rate from March to June that year (30 burials) was markedly higher than in 1562 (13 burials) or 1564 (12 burials).
The entries on this page are in the hand of the copyist who in 1600 copied the original register into this new volume. The entries were then certified as a true copy by the minister and the four chuchwardens.
